St. John's is proud to support Lutheran World Relief (LWR). We provide money for Disaster Relief as well as partake in various projects to help.
Lutheran World Relief is a non-profit organization that works with local partners to provide lasting solutions to poverty, injustice, and human suffering. For example, one long term solution to poverty is agriculture. LWR helps improve the lives of small-scale farmers and their families by helping them adapt to and mitigate the effects of changing weather and environmental conditions.
In emergency operations, LWR's goal is to help communities cope with and recover from emergencies in ways that promote lasting improvements in people's living conditions. Current emergencies include the Nepal Earthquake, Crisis in Syria, and peace in South Sudan.
100% of the money provided is used for the designated purposes.
If you wish to donate through United Way, LWR's Donor ID # is 5099 (main offices in Baltimore, MD).

School Kits
St. John's recently made 31 School Kits for LWR. School Kits are essential so that children may get an education. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies (like pens and paper) may be more than many families can afford. And when parents can only afford to send one of their children to school, girls rarely get priority... yet the education level of mothers has the biggest impact on development.
St. John's collected the supplies and sewed the bags to assemble 31 kits.
