For Advent, we'll be using the book and DVD series called "Experiencing Christmas: Christ in the Sights and Sounds of Advent" by Matt Rawle. These sessions will be led by Pastor Kimberly and Heather Thomas.
We will explore what we see, hear, taste, and feel that's different about Advent and Christmas.
"Everything seems different at the end of the year. We put lights on our houses to dispel the growing darkness. Christmas music floods local radio stations, apple cider and cranberry sauce are again on the menu, and wrapping paper and tape are always ready. Things just look, smell, and taste different during the Advent season, and these differences are a sign to us that God is about to do something radical and new."

Coffee and Conversation
Sundays at 9:30am
The Adult Sunday School Class is called Coffee and Conversation because, you guessed it....there's always coffee and conversations. Don't worry, hot tea is also available and we usually have breakfast treats too!
Coffee and Conversation meets every Sunday from mid-September through May at 9:30am. We study a variety of topics (current issues, bible studies, and others) and sometimes use a DVD series or have a speaker.
Past studies have included:

Previous studies and topics
The Difficult Words of Jesus Jesus provided his disciples teachings for how to follow Torah, God’s word; he told them parables to help them discern questions of ethics and of human nature; he offered them beatitudes for comfort and encouragement. But sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. He instructs disciples to hate members of their own families (Luke 14:26), to act as if they were slaves (Matthew 20:27), and to sell their belongings and give to the poor (Luke 18:22). He restricts his mission (Matthew 10:6); he speaks of damnation (Matthew 8:12); he calls Jews the devil’s children (John 8:44). In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine shows how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation. |

The Heart that Grew Three Sizes
We don’t know why the Grinch hated Christmas. We just know he did. In this new Advent study, Matt Rawle explores the faith themes in the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! including, how did the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes come Christmas morning? How did Christmas save the Grinch? Could it be that the very thing we think we hate is the one thing that changes our lives? This Advent and Christmas season, look at a familiar classic through the lens of faith and see how Christ speaks to us through our culture.
