MEDITATIONS by Carol Dean Henn
Woe to those who make unjust laws to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed. Isaiah 10:1-2
The poor and the powerless are such easy targets. They have so few ways to defend themselves. It’s easy for a rich landowner to cheat migrant workers. The less he pays them, the more profit he has. It’s easy for armed militias to attack unprotected villages, burning huts and crops, and committing unspeakable harm to men, women, and children. Too often, even in judicial systems, it’s easy for wealth, power, and influence to defeat right, justice, and the law itself. What can we do in the face of injustice and oppression? Confront them. Fight them. Stand up for what is right, for God’s will for humanity to live in love and peace. It may mean writing a letter, supporting an organization, or not buying products made through unfair labor. If we look, we can find ways to abide by God’s standards. It won’t be easy, but it will be the right thing to do. © Carol Dean Henn 2018 Comments are closed.
