Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Among all the things we can seek and ask for – some of which we can be sure God will provide for us, some of which he might withhold – we can be certain that we will find righteousness. By ‘righteousness,’ we mean the commitment to live a God-centered, God-loving life. Righteousness is often thought of as perfection or purity, and certainly there is an ultimate excellence about the idea of righteousness.
But for our purposes … for use by men, women, and youngsters making their everyday way in today’s world … righteousness can simply be thought of as ‘right living.’ When we aspire to that, when we “hunger and thirst” for it, we will surely receive the ability to live rightly from God himself.
